My Sisters House

  • Description

Founded by a group of volunteers in 1980, My Sisters House, provides safe shelter to victims of domestic violence and their children throughout the tri-county area. Women who are in immediate danger from verbal, emotional, physical or sexual abuse are eligible to stay in our emergency shelter at no charge.

While staying at My Sister’s House, both the women and children participate in group and individual counseling sessions, parenting and living skills classes. They also are given referrals for housing, employment, and for additional counseling that may be necessary once they leave the shelter. The women served by My Sister’s House are provided with a safe environment where they can not only make decisions but take action to make those decisions a reality.

2016 STATISTICS:

  • 339 women and kids served in shelter

  • 2,802 crisis calls answered

  • Assisted with 898 court advocacy cases

Support Groups

Because domestic violence exists among all socioeconomic groups, My Sister’s House provides support groups in multiple locations around Berkeley, Dorchester and Charleston Counties. Victims in less urban parts of our community need not feel isolated from the services and resources that My Sister’s House can offer.
